Matthew Huxtable talks about what it's like to grow up in the age of the Internet and why constant connection to our technological devices might not be such a bad thing after all.

To say Matt Huxtable has grown up 'online' is probably an understatement. A naturally inquisitive person, the UK native was instantly fascinated when his parents bought their first Personal Computer way back in 1996. For the small, developing mind of a three-year-old, it was a momentous concept. As the years went by, Matt's new found technology skills unlocked a world of opportunities, both academically and otherwise. At the age of 12, he discovered technology website Experts Exchange (http://www.experts-exchange.com). The tech Experts on the site helped him get out of a jam with a server problem (yes, a 12-year-old with his own server) and he then discovered that he could help other people too! A win-win situation. Matt grew incredibly fond of the Experts Exchange community, and is still proud to be an active member to this day. As of 2011, Matt took up a place at the University of Cambridge to study Physics & Computer Science. He is a member of all manner of communities, both the usual social networks and his own select few. The connections he has made through online and offline communities are simply remarkable. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
