Good audio recording from Elton John's solo piano tour, Syracuse, New York 2000 April 18. I'm uploading the entire concert. This is track #5 - Daniel. "Daniel" comes from the album "Dont Shoot Me Im Only the Piano Player", recorded in 1972. Bernie Taupin's lyric was inspired by a story in Newsweek about Vietnam veterans returning home to second-rate treatment. Daniel is a blind Vietnam Vet. Because Elton eliminated the last verse, which revealed much of the story, it has been a very misinterpreted song. Many have thought it to be a gay anthem. It was a top ten single in 1973, and appeared on "Elton John's Greatest Hits" in 1974.
