Developed by Future Designs and published by Silverbird in 1989. I assume that Cheap Skate got it's name from the fact that it was a £1.99 budget game and featured skateboarding. You might think that the name is self-deprecating, but it's a reasonable game. The objective is to guide your skateboarder along isometric courses, avoiding various obstacles, including manholes, lamp-posts and fireballs (yes, I did say fireballs). All of this is to because you want to to join the ranks of the "Street Hawks" skate gang and to eventually ascend to the rank of leader. The game reminded me of Mean Streak, although this doesn't suffer from wonky collision detection as a result of the isometric perspective. In fact, the only gripe I have with the game is the position of your skateboarder; you don't get much time to react to oncoming obstacles due to being so close to the right of the screen. If you do get to the end of the game, I don't recommend trying to phone Daryl (Daryl Bowers, the game's programmer). I'm pretty sure that either he won't live at the same address and you don't want the old bill arriving on your doorstep looking for a weirdo who claims to have just finished a C64 game from the late 1980s...
