See Index below. I found this painted turtle in my yard. I had no idea why she was there. I tapped her shell and found her quite alert. I sprayed her with water which she did NOT like. She moved away and I discovered that she had already started digging a hole. Sorry! She found another spot (20 feet from the house). This video unfolded over 2.5 hours. At the end you can see where I began to erect a stone marker circle so that I would not walk all over the spot. I had intended to wait until she was finished but as you can see, she was doing such an incredible job of eliminating any signs that she had been there that I worried that I would not be able to find the exact spot! I could have edited the footage down to 3 minutes, but this length helps to convey just what an arduous task this was. As she finally departs, it seems to me that you can see in her hind legs the physical exhaustion. Notable highlights: 7:00 an egg is laid 9:30 cover up begins 16:00 she continues detailing the spot until you can't tell she had been there!
