Seven BSF jawans were injured in a militant attack at Pantha Chowk in the outskirts of the state capital on Tuesday. The militants opened fire at BSF convoy in the Pampore area on the day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the state to inaugurate the two hydro power projects. Police officials and other security forces rushed to the spot. A senior official said two BSF jawans are said to be critical who were taken to army hospital for advance treatment. He said involvement of LeT militants cannot be ruled out. Several cases of ceasefire violations were reported in last few days. On Sunday, Pakistani troops had fired at Indian forward posts along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting Indian forces to retaliate. "Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts by resorting to unprovoked firing from small arms and automatic weapons in Mendhar sector in Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir at 11:30 hours," Defence Spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta had informed. The Indian troops guarding the border with Pakistan took positions and had fired back with equal calibre weapons, resulting in intermittent exchange of fire, he had said.
