Emerging from a long tunnel, crossing a viaduct across a verdant valley, and back into another long tunnel! This is the charm of a travel on the scenic Konkan Railway, India along the Western Ghats of India between Maharashtra and Kerala. There are 2000 bridges and 91 tunnels on the entire 738 kilometres route of the Konkan Railway. The longest tunnel is 6.6 kilometres in length, and the tallest bridge at 64 metres in height. Most long tunnels are fitted with ventilation systems to dispel the fumes from the diesel locomotives hauling trains on this route. The route is now marked for installing electric traction. This short video was shot from the Hazrat Nizamuddin (New Delhi) to Trivandrum Central (in Kerala) Rajdhani Express (Train # 12432) while traversing at about 110 Km/h shortly after leaving Ratnagiri toward Goa.
