Made by The Commonwealth Film Unit 1965. Directed by Bob Kingsbury. It is with great sadness that we learnt of the recent passing of Bob Kingsbury, a prolific director who made over 50 films with the CFU between 1965 and 1987. Wide Pastures was his first. The land, the people and the way of life of Australian sheep growers. Modern techniques are detailed, which increase productivity, such as the use of trace elements, bore water, irrigation and aircraft mustering. The story, deals with the boundary riders, doggers, fencers and shearers - the phases of wool production in Australia and some of the problems involved in running a sheep property. Beautiful images of flocks of sheep, silhouetted against windmills and brown earth, Wide Pastures is a story of outback Australia.
