The New Testament envisions a war between the reign of Jesus as cosmic king, and the the assault on 'the gates of Hell.' In that imagery, the central weapons of the kingdom of Christ are not 'flesh and blood,' but rather the more potent forces of Word and Work. One of the most dramatic examples of such warfare comes from the life of John Wesley, and his remarkable career as part of the Great Awakening in England.
