I wrote "Somewhere You'll Find Me" in the spring of 2000. I recorded the demo of the song along with 12 other originals (The "Circles of Heartache" demos) in a small 16X20 building behind my house in Conover, NC. Tracy Houston sang the lead vocals, Carl Lane replaced my drum machine and Mike Hodgson played bass. All guitars and keys were me. On a whim we submitted the whole CD to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's National Battle of the Bands that fall. We were shocked to get invited to perform along with 47 other bands from across the nation. We didn't even have a complete band, and we had only played in front of an audience one time previously. We begged Travis and Steve McKinney to join us on guitar and keys to approximate the sound of the demo. The video you see here is terrible and the sound isn't great either, but it's a cool reminder of that great opportunity to play at the rock hall. We did five of my original tunes that day and made a good showing, although a band from the Cleveland area took the prize. This is posted in memory of my great old friend Mike Hodgson.
