Bank of England govenor: British economy would suffer under Brexit

(28 Nov 2018) The governor of the Bank of England on Wednesday said the British economy would undergo "an adjustment" under any Brexit scenario that could result in less growth and people having to "shift" jobs. Mark Carney was being interviewed after giving a news conference in which he warned of the dire consequences of a "disorderly" no-deal Brexit, viewed as the worst case scenario by many. Britain and the EU have agreed on a deal for the UK's smooth exit in March. But British lawmakers are threatening to derail it, and Prime Minister Theresa May is battling to persuade them to support her agreement when Parliament votes next month. May says that if Parliament rejects her deal, Britain could be headed for an economically disruptive "no deal" Brexit on March 29.
