(28 Nov 2018) The traditional Dresden Christmas market, the oldest in Germany, opened for business on Wednesday. Braving the cold, hundreds of people turned up to enjoy mulled wine and traditional Dresden stollen cake at the Striezelmarkt. The market, which takes it name from the traditional Struezel cake, has been held since 1434. Emperor Friedrich II ruled that a market should be held in the days before Christmas so people could stock up for the festivities. The market has grown from then, and now hundreds of traders sell anything from Christmas decorations to food.
