More information in the description: -- Intro -- Exclusively to Pokémon Gold (does not work the same in Silver), wrong pocket TM47 can corrupt how you appear to be placed on the map. After saving and resetting, the changes are applied, allowing you to bypass NPCs and enter locations earlier than intended. This includes the game forcing you to Surf even if you don't have a Pokémon with Surf, if you use TM47 to enter water and then save and reset the game. This effect was documented in the past by entrpntr and luckytyphlosion and more information can be found here: https://glitchcity.info/wiki/TMHMDex/G:239 Dex mode 0x0B; see https://glitchcity.info/wiki/DexDex/GS:011 will execute arbitrary code execution at C94C in RAM when opened. If this can be avoided (e.g. by placing a ret, (0xC9) byte near here), then you can corrupt the map by opening the mode selection screen with Select and then closing it. The walking permissions (where you can walk) depend on where you did the corruption, however you can use it to bypass Tohjo Falls and the badge check gate. Both Pokédex mode 0x0B and wrong pocket TM47 could possibly in theory be combined to beat the game with as little as two badges (or less(?)). This was done before with another method involving an expanded party; see party based map distortion glitch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhXJRig_O68 and that glitch likely obsoletes this one, but I feel this is an interesting combination regardless. To do this you would want in theory a ????? to faint all of your Pokémon to enable instant wins each time you battle. This glitch has some downsides sadly, mainly that C94C must be executed every time and the dex mode is changed to FF after exiting. What are glitch TMs and HMs: When TMs and HMs are outside of the TM/HM pocket, they will have glitchy effects. Some of these cause arbitrary code execution, others freeze the game or do seemingly nothing noticeable, but a few have special effects such as TM47 in Pokémon Gold (featured in this video). These effects are documented on Glitch City Laboratories' TMHMDex: https://glitchcity.info/wiki/TMHMDex In order to get a wrong pocket TM/HM, you can abuse the duplicate key items glitch via bad clone glitch, or get one via arbitrary code execution. You can also get one in the first slot of the Balls pocket with codes 01xxFDD5 (Gold/Silver) or 01xxD8D8 (Crystal) (xx can be anything from BF-C9 except for C3 or DC). What are glitch Pokédex modes?: -- Glitch Pokédex modes are invalid Pokédex sortings and modes among the valid modes (New Pokédex, Old Pokédex, A to Z, Unown Mode) in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal. In the game, glitch Pokédex modes can be accessed in the expanded Balls pocket (by adjusting item 64 quantity however bytes may be shifted up afterwards*) via the duplicate key items glitch https://glitchcity.info/wiki/Duplicate_key_items_glitch or by accessing an out of bounds Glitch City (Crystal) https://glitchcity.info/w/index.php?title=Out_of_bounds_Glitch_City_(Generation_II)&stable=0 or with arbitrary code execution e.g. via a box name or stored items e.gs. Gold/Silver: https://glitchcity.info/wiki/Coin_Case_glitches or https://glitchcity.info/wiki/Wrong_pocket_TMs_and_HMs (from duplicate key items via bad clone) or stack corruption ACE via bad clone https://forums.glitchcity.info/index.php?topic=8097.0 In Crystal the arbitrary code execution methods to get glitch Pokédex modes include: unterminated name/bad clone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtRFxxKW7mY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqD68-2aAjg or wrong pocket TM/HM like in Gold/Silver Using a memory editor, D67E (Gold/Silver) or D959 (Crystal) will directly change the dex mode. Alternatively GameShark codes 01xx7ED6 (Gold/Silver) or 01xx59D9 (Crystal) will replace the dex mode with xx's value. *You can't toss from the item stack either, the quantity is locked. So the quantity must be from another item x254, and if the shift up occurs, it can be shifted down again until it's in slot 64.
