Frozen Sisters Elsa and Anna In Love That's why we fall in love in the spring The sun is shining and we're ticking again. Spring feelings can be called that, if you want to express it beautifully. Why is that? Why are we falling in love with each other in the spring? Professor Joachim Bauer, neurobiologist and senior physician at the Freiburg University Hospital, knows the answer. "Social Brain: Why Humans Are Neurobiologically Focused on Relationships," is the title he gives tomorrow. Our new author Meike Riebau has conducted an interview with him. The first rays of sunshine, the first time go out of the house without a jacket, eating ice cream for the first time: freed from three-hundred-pound layers of clothes, we start again, we are interested in the essentials. For example, for love. Not for nothing is it spring fever. Well, and who has always wondered why sprout new feelings with the first green, why Couchpotatoes are bad lovers and why he just can not with single children, will find the (more or less) ultimate answers here. We asked Professor Joachim Bauer, Neurobiologist and Senior Physician in the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at the University of Freiburg, about anything that has always burned our souls. Why are so many people falling in love with each other in the spring? Professor Joachim Bauer: In the spring we just discover the world again and with it the people in it. In winter, we retire, surround ourselves with people we already know, stay at home and develop a certain protective attitude. The light also plays an important role. You stay outside again, we are more open to a relationship and have more energy. It's like a kind of deblocking effect after the winter, all the locks are lifted. How do people fall in love? Bauer: We fall in love with sensual impressions, looks, we are very much after the optics as humans. But it's also about the voice. These are the two main channels through which we exchange messages and signals. When there is a resonance, when two look at each other, they signal themselves: that would be fitting. Then love arises. Is "falling in love" a process that we can control? Or is something just happening to us? Bauer: Both. First and foremost, it just happens, but we also have the opportunity to make bans, internal, internal bans. Certain networks in the brain take over the task of censoring what we would like to do. There are people who forbid something for a variety of reasons, and that may include love. Love, this big, meaningful word. What is that? Bauer: From the brain's point of view, love is the release of happiness messengers. They are released when we meet another person who loves us and whom we love. That sounds pretty simple and, frankly, not very romantic. After all, there would be so many people we could love, why do not we take every runaway? Bauer: The choice we make is often related to previous love experiences. If a girl had a fancy dad, chances are that this girl later falls in love with a guy a bit like her dad. But it can also be a former partner who was influential. "Opposites attract" - is the phrase correct? Bauer: Definitely. It is often the case that the partner has something of what he or she does not have enough. A Long-Liver perhaps longs for some rest from time to time. She will then search for a suitable partner. The joke of the matter is that the reason she flew on the quiet, thoughtful guy would later be the reason why she can not stand it any longer and will split up after one to three years. That's horrible. How can we free ourselves from this endless loop? Bauer: You can only get out of such loops if both partners develop. The Long-Liver must learn to hold back from time to time, and see what the guy says that may need a bit of time to open his mouth. The guy has to learn to really open his mouth and not always sit back, according to the motto "She's talking for me, because you need". I have nothing to say. " What about the cliché: men look only for looks, and women for power and money? Bauer: It may be that women also look for power and position, because girls like to feel well protected, a kind of primal instinct. After all, in case of doubt, the girls who are given the children, and then you need protection and power of the protector. Guys look a lot like girls looking, but I think guys look a lot more like a girl than you think. Quite simply, we humans are not knitted.
