On May 24, 2005, Gorillaz released their sophomore album, Demon Days, in the United States. Demon Days hit No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and went double platinum in March of 2006. It was the virtual group’s sequel to their 2001 self-titled debut album. The Gorillaz, made up by cartoon singer 2-D, bassist Murdoc, drummer Russel and guitarist Noodle; was created by musician Damon Albarn and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. Albarn is better known as the frontman of Blur, while artist Jamie Hewlett is behind the comic, Tank Girl. On Demon Days, Danger Mouse was the one behind the boards and just released his Jay Z-Beatles mashup, The Grey Album, a year prior. The indie hip hop producer would later work with rock groups the Black Keys, U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers. He also was part of collaborative projects Gnarls Barkley with Cee Lo Green and DANGERDOOM with MF Doom. Like the group's first project, Demon Days was an grab bag of musical genres blending alternative rock, hip hop and pop all into one project. For hip hop fans, the album is well remembered for featuring De La Soul, Bootie Brown of the Pharcyde and British MC, Roots Manueva. Of course, the lead single “Feel Good Inc.,” is probably the best remembered song from this album. Over a grooving bass line, Damon Albarn and De La Soul traded off verses with member of De La Soul straight flowing. To little surprise, the album won the 2006 Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. However, the best rap feature on this album easily went to MF Doom who got his own solo track, "November Has Come." It is hands down one of Doom's best tracks flowing heavy and riffing on how the golden era of rap was over. Watch our Daily Operation video above.
