In 1989, Ray, who was running Platterpus Records in Santa Monica, CA at the time, asked me to draw up a few illustrations for a couple of ads that was to be placed in the pages of the L.A. Weekly.

I happily took up this small job, not only for the exposure, but I had been going to this store since the early 70's!!...even before I knew WHAT to do with those flat discs.

Anyways, this small video contains the two ads and a couple more rough illos I did for the project. The audio was taken from a rare Dr. Demento radio aircheck from 1971 during his KPPC-FM days.

Sadly, Platterpuss shut its doors in the early '00's and the last time I saw Ray was he was working part-time at Record Surplus. Thanks for everything, Ray!

PS, in the photo of Ray, he's holding a defective vinyl copy of Jeff Lynne's 1990 solo LP, Armchair Theater. You can't really see the blob of vinyl left on the record, which is what Ray is pointing to.

CORRECTION: The drawings I did had to be based on the Platterpuss character that was painted above the store front years before....not vise versa. I should have made that clear in the first place.

UPDATE: I just posted an updated version of this video and you can find it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB7jyi0yVW8
