Terry Hunefeld and Ann Dunham meet Ken and Sharon Wierenga in Naples, then Sicily and the walled city of Erice - March 2011. The ancient name of Erice was Eryx (after the Greek hero Eryx). Eryx was obliterated in the First Punic War by the Carthaginians then conquered by Aghlebids in 831. It was ruled by Arabs for 300 years until the Norman conquests in 1167. The Normans renamed it Monte San Giuliano and the walled city was known by that name until 1934.
