Sissako Albertine Books located at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy on Museum Mile in New York City is much more than a place to buy books. It is also a place for engaging conversations as was evident during the second edition of the Albertine Festival. Guests included Pulitzer winning author Margo Jefferson as well as award-winning Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako, who we spoke with. Even Dark Tunisian visual and performing artist Even Dark breaks down gender binaries, and opens space for self-expression. We had the opportunity to meet them one day in a side street of Tunis. Mustang The feature film, Mustang, directed by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, tells the story of Lale, and her four older sisters as they come of age in rural Turkey. The girls are trained for marriage and kept in a house, which becomes a prison. But the more they are oppressed the more they try to escape. Lyonel Trouillot Haitian novelist and poet, Lyonel Trouillot writes in French and Haitian Creole, and teaches in Port-au-Prince, where he lives. Recently, he came to visit New York University where he addressed an elite academic audience, and warned them about apolitical discourse. (Taped: 11/18/15)
