Creating Continuity at Dartmouth’s House Communities

Two years ago, Dartmouth established a new residential system that placed every student in one of six house communities, each of which has a house professor who lives within a short walk. The goals of the communities include giving students both a greater sense of continuity during their time at Dartmouth and more opportunities to interact with faculty outside classrooms.

In this video, faculty and students reflect on how the house community system has taken shape. “I think it really helps to reinforce what the fundamental mission of the College is,” says Craig Sutton, the School House Professor and an associate professor of mathematics.
