In 1962, Eric Lubbock created shockwaves in the British political system when he won the Orpington by-election. The reason for these shockwaves? He was the Liberal candidate and turned a seat that had elected a Conservative in 1959 with a majority of 15,000 over Labour into a Liberal majority over Conservative of 7,000. He held the seat at the 1964 general election (with a majority of 3,000) and in 1966 (with a majority of 2,000) before being defeated in the 1970 general election (when he lost by 2,000). He was elevated to the House of Lords shortly after the 1970 general election and became know as Lord Avebury (after the village in Wiltshire) and appeared on the BBC's coverage of the February 1974 general election (as seen here, sourced from BBC Parliament). He is now a regular YouTube contributor. It was reported by the Guardian newspaper on February 14th 2016, that Lord Avebury had died from blood cancer, this video is therefore going to be changed into a memorial video
