The quest is over. Found the ultimate Studio Brian May tone. Read on:

Disclaimer: This video is NOT about my guitar skills and how much I nailed it (or not) while playing the solo. My main objective was to play it as good as possible and especially nail those two pesky artificial harmonics Brian plays (They're critical). Alongside having a good "opera singer" May overall vibrato.

This video is to demonstrate how close to the original studio version my rig sounds by using digital means. I love doing these kind of challenges so feel free to ask for one particular tone. (if so, give as much info as you can too)

I also did this to demonstrate the BM70 does sound like the Red Special given the right signal chain and even if the pickups don't say Burns Trisonic they behave in the same exact way.

Final version: this one has a delay at a very short time creating the "extra bit of phasing" needed.

The order is:

- Gate/suppressor
- Compressor
- Treble booster.
- Amp (AC30, only the amp, no paired cabinet)
- Deacy amp replica IR cabinet running in Fruity Convolver.
- Small delay (1ms, and no feedback, no more repetitions than one)
- Reverb

The IR and Delay are critical in this setup. The booster, compressor and amp are not.

The Cabinet IR is sandwich in the middle using two Guitar Rig instances providing only the amp and reverb.

These IR's are claimed to be taken from a real Deacy Amp replica. The expensive one.

Here you have them.

File number 03 seems to be the most accurate.

Just copy the settings in your DAW and use the IR on a convolver engine.

The pickup setting is:

neck: ON
middle: ON phase inv
bridge: OFF

About my BM70

To be honest, if Thomann still sold it I would now still buy an original BM. Just not to piss off Brian, whom we love as a human being and as musician.

I had the chance to get one of these BM70 and absolutely love it.

Now, I've invested quite some on this one to pimp it up and make it better. It plays like heaven and is much better instrument than stock.

It has:

- Grover Locking tuners (Cam shaft and lock wheels in the back) 90 Euro

- Big Fat Steel Block especially made for the "Import" bridge. I tried a Witkinson and a Strat Block and neither fitted as replacement parts. 33 Euro

- Fender Strat Trem arm 20 Euro

- Roller nut: ABM, works wonders. 28 Euro

- Schaller Sure claw. 43 Euro

- Extra strong springs. 5 Euro

- Goldo BackBox stabilizer 16 Euro

- Replica RS knobs. 25 Euro

Original guitar cost = 248

The extra total cost is 260 Euro.

Total cost: 508 Euro.
