There’s a new kid on the block! Meet Burton, our new Grand Cayman iguana! He’s 4 years old and is named after Fred Burton, director of the Blue Iguana Recovery Programme. The facility is regarded as saving this endangered species through its re-release program; in 2002, there were only about a dozen Grand Cayman iguanas left in the wild and now, it’s estimated that there are more than 750! This little guy has some big footprints to fill after Dude passed away last summer, but his animal care team says Burt is definitely not short on personality. He even enjoys bobbing his head at guests! Be sure to stop by the Reptile Building and give Burt a head-bob “hello” on your next visit!
