In this video we take a look at Ballinbreich Castle by the Tay estuary in North Fife. The castle, which dates back as far as the 14th century lies in a ruinous state and despite being surrounded by arable farmland on three sides, the inside of the castle hosts a forest.

The original castle was expanded upon in the 16th century, making it great social castle which belonged to the Leslie family. During the 19th century, the castle was sold to the Dundas family in order to help pay for the construction of Leslie House, which now lies abandoned in Glenrothes. Unfortunately, the Dundases paid more attention to their estates in Shetland, eventually leading to the abandonment of Ballinbreich Castle in the late 19th century.

It's hard to work out what is what within the castle but remnants of spiral stairways, gunloops and many tall walls still remain, as well as evidence of the chapel that was located within the castle walls. This video provides a full tour of everything we could easily locate and hopefully provides an in-depth look at the inside of this great old building.

This video also includes a guest appearance from one half of the Strange Places in Scotland team, Jag Betty.
