The previous iteration of the GR-1 had a very low pitch, small, high rpm propeller. While this worked well it was very noisy and used a lot of power.

To increase the efficiency and achieve longer flight times, I modified the original 10800 kv motor. By replacing the 8 magnets in the rotor with 12 and increasing the number of winding turns in the stator, I reduced the motor Kv to around 6800. This allowed me spin a larger propeller without a substantial increase in current draw.

The effects of using a larger propeller were substantial. The aircraft cruised and climbed noticeably faster. Likewise the propeller noise, especially at a distance, was far less severe; While flight times did not increase very much, there was still an overall performance improvement.
