Edward Lucas is a respected journalist from The Economist. He has written two books on Putin's Russia: 'The New Cold War' (2008) and 'Deception'. Lucas is clear about Putin's goals. The Russian leader is a hypocrite who's not interested in a diplomatic solution in Syria. "Russia only has to gain from the instability in Syria." He is also scathing about the weak diplomacy by the West, Obama in particular. "The Russian play chess, the Americans play chequers. Obama is becoming the worst American president since Carter."
