Until about the 1970's research in the social sciences and evaluation of programs usually relied on experimental designs. As stated in the book "The Cipp Evaluation Model" (page 7) by Stufflebeam and Zhang:

“The evaluation technology available in the early 1960’s was mainly limited to controlled, variable-manipulating, randomized, comparative experiments; the outcomes-oriented objectives-based approach to determining whether behavioral objectives were achieved.”

In the 1980's and 1990's new research methods that identify what practices are effective have been developed. Many of these research methods emphasize finding the methods that are most effective rather than attempting to produce extremely convincing results. The more modest goal of determining what methods have the most evidence rather than attempting to demonstrate with almost complete certainty that something is true is the fundamental philosophy of the evidence-based movements in medicine, psychology, and many other fields. Nearly complete certainty is still the ultimate goal by taking much smaller incremental steps to determine what ideas have the most evidence of being correct is much more practical, helpful, and useful.

Rather than primarily conducting experiments, exploratory research can be used in astrology to determine which ideas are most likely to be valid. By using exploratory research methods astrology can join other professions that now focus on evidence-based practices. 

The astrological community can decide whether Evidence-Based Astrology is an important positive step that astrology can take or whether the field of astrology should continue as is. The goal of this video is to describe what evidence-based practices are and why they have become so strongly endorsed in many professions today, and to see if the astrological community would like astrology to head in this direction also.
