Springfield's Convoy of Hope leaves for the Carolinas

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- As #HurricaneFlorence gets closer to making landfall, Springfield-based Convoy of Hope is now leaving.to head to the East coast. #ConvoyofHope has a crew of 15 staff and #volunteers already on the road to respond. It sent a team to assess the storm. Thursday morning, a full team with eleven loads of equipment and disaster relief supplies left the Ozarks. They'll likely travel as far as eastern Tennessee tonight and continue tomorrow. The crew is taking food, water and hygiene supplies to distribute to hurricane victims, as well as equipment to help with disaster response. They're also, for the first time, taking a mobile kitchen unit and bunk house that will help take care of staff and volunteers' needs in the disaster area. The team doesn't know yet how long they'll be gone, or even exactly where they're going. "At the moment, our ultimate destination is kind of TBD based on where the storm, where the bulk of the impacts are, but we're looking really close at the Wilmington area, that seems to be kind of the target, so we'll probably end up somewhere in that area," said Stacy Lamb of Convoy of Hope.
