Officer Burke's so called safe back roads

So I decided to show you all just what some (not all) of Pleasantville's so called "safer" back road situation is like.  Officer Burke alleges that it is safer for me to use roads other than route 40.  Is that a fact Ralph!

This is Fire road and it connects with route 40 as well as other roads.  My destination was in Absecon  (it's where I was going when I got hit by a car), and this road was my fastest option.  Officer Burke would also have you believe it's my safest as well.  What is supposed to be a shoulder IS NO LESS THAN A CATERED ROAD HAZARD READY TO KILL THE NEXT CYCLIST!  I'm serious.  Even in low light conditions this shoulder looks like it could double as a shooting location for a movie about the Moon.

The traffic all pass dangerously close, but I don't have much option.  I don't really know how much I can fault the drivers either.  Most are forced over the double yellow line to avoid hitting me, but end up risking a head on collision with on coming traffic.  The damned city of Pleasantville has allowed this road to deteriorate for many years.  Its obvious someone is going to have to die before there will even be discussion about repaving it.

Yet Burke maintains that roads such as this one are my best option for circumventing route 40.  As a legally recognized vehicle with full rights to the road, it should not be my obligation to wander around in a city or a town looking for so called "safer streets" all because drivers are unwilling to exercise proper due diligence when overtaking a slower moving vehicle such as a bicycle.
