Repentance: Is it necessary for Salvation?

Is Repentance a turning from Sin to Jesus Christ, or just a change of mind about Him? I try and give a biblical answer, that seems to be dividing the brethren. How can we come to Christ, for forgiveness of sins, but not want to give them up? Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary we uphold the law. Romans 3:31 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Romans 6:1-2. Keeping the law is not what justifies us, for we are saved by grace through faith. Eph. 2:8. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments. Fro this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1John 5:2-3
