This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The TEDxPlano 2014 theme was "On The Verge" -- Mike Orren is On The Verge of tripping into The Matrix and coming out with the perfect garage sale; better government, and a locally-owned Wal-Mart business-stealer.

Mike has spent his career obsessed with using media to improve local relationships. From starting the first city magazine website at D Magazine in 1995; to founding Pegasus News in 2005; to his current gig as the head barkeep at content marketing firm Speakeasy -- he is convinced that local media and business models will eventually catch up with technology.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
