EU: Israeli Settlements 'Hindrance' to Peace Process

David Miliband Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, at the arrival of today's informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Sweden: "All the European Union countries agree and certainly the United Kingdom is clear, the settlements are illegal according to international law, and they are also a hindrance to the sort of peace process and peace plan that is absolutely essential. Equally, there are important responsibilities on the Arab States. What is significant now is that increasing numbers of Arab States are clear about the need for them to make parallel moves if there is indeed a freeze by the Israelis on settlements as promised under the road map. And that is the sort of dynamic that we want to see started."
