Welcome back to another edition of the Digital Hammurabi Book Club! In this episode, we begin to read the famous Epic of Gilgamesh! This early Akkadian composition is known from numerous copies, particularly from the first millennium BCE. The individual stories about the legendary King of Uruk, Gilgamesh, are known from Sumerian originals that come from no later than the early second millennium BCE. Come join us as we read through this very popular Mesopotamian story and provide commentary along the way! For a reliable, scholarly translation of the Epic, we recommend this penguin classic translated by Andrew George: https://tinyurl.com/y8mzpt7e
