This weeks "What's Up Wednesday?" -- call with Flora Peterson, we talked about Binge Patterns.

There are times when we are so busy during the week with the endless amounts of things on our to do list that when it comes to the weekend all we want to do is disconnect and treat ourselves to something where we can just...well, not do a darn thing. Flora introduced a new term, to me at least, called Binge-Watching.

Binge-watching, also called binge-viewing, is the practice of watching television for longer time spans than usual, usually of a single television show. In a survey conducted by Netflix, 73% of people define binge-watching as "watching between 2-6 episodes of the same TV show in one sitting." ~Wikipedia

I will admit that this is my favorite form of relaxing and treating myself when I reach a moment of "fullness" during my spiritual studies and I recharge by shutting down. The reason, I believe, that Flora brought up this term is because our society has completely relied on binges to avoid things in our personal lives. Binge-watching is a form of escapism. It is a form to shut down. We choose not to be present to deal with what we are going through. It is a way to fill a void. It is okay to do this once in a while but not in a form of an addictive behavior. Addictive behaviors can be so many things. We can choose to binge at the gym, with food, drinks, romantic partners, shopping, I mean the list can go on, and on, and on.

Flora shared with us her experiences with this type of behavior. She also asked these questions for us to answer: "What are you running away from?" "What are you choosing to not face?"

Many times when we choose to hide behind an addiction, whether we are aware of it or not, will begin a vicious cycle of self-detriment. One great way to stop that from happening is to find out when in your life did you start to be too busy to enjoy your life. What happened for you to forget to enjoy your life?

It is time to start to tear down your commitments. Having way too much to do in one day can cause it to flood over into the next day and so on. Time starts to fly and months go by and you find yourself asking yourself: "Where did the month go?"
Tune into and reflect on the time when these patterns started. Think about the things you might do to avoid things in your life.

Flora asked us to write down: "When did we start to be too busy to enjoy our life?"

"What can I bring into my life that will enrich my life? And bring in that fulfillment into my life." ~ Flora Peterson

Many people will come up with reasons of why they cannot do certain things. Start to look beyond the issue that is preventing you to do the things you really want to do. Look for other ways to do it so that you can allow yourself to experience your life. Instead of binging you can make time during each day to be with you and the things you enjoy. The more that you have the less time you will have doing the things you would like to be doing.

The challenge for this week is to recognize if you are choosing to be too busy to experience your life? Was there any issues in your past that caused these pattern in your present life?

Thank you so much Flora for these amazing calls,
