Alain Prevost, a 40-year-old artisan living in rural France, has been fined €150 ($194) for illegally downloading copyrighted materials, becoming the first person to be convicted under France's controversial anti-piracy law. Introduced in 2009, the Hadopi (Haute Autorité pour la diffusion des œuvres et la protection des droits sur internet) law is a three-strike law that can lead to fines of up to €1,500 ($2,000) for offenders.
