It’s actually called “Easier (The Song Of The Wise Man)” - I’ve always loved the more melancholy minor key Christmas carols that make you feel the longing of Advent—songs like “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”. So I wanted to write a song that I hoped would put a person in that kind of emotional space. - I wrote “Easier” with my buddy Joel Hanson and it was inspired by Frederick Buechner’s book Peculiar Treasures where he wonders if the wise men ever recognized that for all the extravagance and generosity of their gifts that the gift the Christ Child would have been most glad to receive was the gift of themselves. - Maybe that’s taking ungenerous license with the story of the wise men, but it still got me thinking about the ways that I can give with my hands while withholding my heart and the kind of Love that can disarm the self-protective fear that keeps me from giving away my whole heart. - I’d love to know what you think of the song.
