Scrap Steel Prices for Hot-Rolled Coil U.S. Steel gained considerable ground in the last few weeks, driven up by the U.S. of a 25% tariff on steel imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union, which came into force on June 1st 2018. Steel traded at USD 909 per metric ton on 8 June, which was 5% higher than on the same day in May and was up 45% on a year-to-date basis. The price was 53.8% higher than on the same day last year.
