Uttarakhand: Many injured in stone throwing festival in Champawat district

The Bagwal fair is held at Devidhura on the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan every year at Goddess Varahi temple premises, 75 km from the Champawat district headquarters. Local goddess Barahi is worshipped before the start of the main event. This year, the fair began on August 26 in which over hundred people got injured. During this festival people throw stones at each other while they try to protect themselves with the help of large shields made of bamboo. The injured consider themselves lucky since they get to offer their blood to the goddess.
