Queens: Motorcyclist Killed from Speeding & Falling

JAMAICA, Queens - At 1:26 am a motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and crashed on the sidewalk at 118-18 197th street within the confines of the 113 Precinct. NYPD opened a CIS investigation to look into the cause of the collision, and the cyclist was immediately transported to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.

“On Sunday, October 14, 2018 at approximately 0126 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle near the intersection of 197 Street and 119 Road, within the confines of the 113 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 48-year-old male motorcyclist with head, neck and body trauma, lying on the roadway. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on Sunday, October 14, 2018. A further investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined that the motorcyclist was operating a 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling southbound on 197 Street at a high rate of speed when he failed to properly navigate the roadway, causing the motorcycle to land on its left side and slide along the roadway. The motorcycle then struck the rear of a parked and unoccupied 2006 Dodge Caravan, and the motorcyclist was ejected, thrown to the roadway and came to a rest in the middle of the roadway. The investigation remains ongoing. The deceased has been identified as: Giles, Maurice, 48-year-old male, Queens, NY.”
