United Nations, 27 February 2009 - John Holmes, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator briefed this morning the members of the Security Council during closed consultations about the humanitarian situation in Northern Sri Lanka that he said "has deteriorated very severely in the last few weeks and months". Mr Holmes talked about the safety of civilians in the pockets as well as the treatment of those who escaped from the fightings and are living in camps.
