More space news and info at: http://www.coconutsciencelab.com - the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) was an electric vehicle designed to operate in the low-gravity vacuum of the Moon and to be capable of traversing the lunar surface, allowing the Apollo astronauts to extend the range of their surface extravehicular activities. Three LRVs were driven on the Moon: the first by Apollo 15 astronauts David Scott and Jim Irwin, the second by Apollo 16 astronauts John Young and Charles Duke; with the third LRV being used during the Apollo 17 mission - driven by Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt.
