WaterAid's mission is to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in the world's poorest communities. We work to address the needs of some of the 748 million people worldwide that do not have access to safe drinking water and some of the 2.5 billion people who lack access to a toilet. Together with improved hygiene, these basic human rights underpin health, education and livelihoods, forming the first essential step in overcoming poverty.

WaterAid does this by empowering local leaders to help their communities plan, build and manage safe water supplies and toilets. We also use our experience and research to influence decision-makers to prioritize these vital services. We use practical technologies and train local people to maintain their new water and sanitation facilities so they can keep them working long into the future.

The global scale of the water and sanitation crisis means that we can’t solve the problem alone. We depend on the generosity of supporters, and encourage you to visit our website to learn more.
