That Day We Left is a game about refugees trying to escape their war-ravaged country for a better life. That Day We Left gameplay blends adventure game conversation paths and resource management. In this alpha playthrough we play as a father who is trying to guide his family to safety, protecting and aiding those he loves.

That Day We Left is not the sort of game I normally cover (I am not big on adventure-heavy games), however I appreciate the developers, Inner Void, taking on a complex subject and exploring it through the eyes of a few characters - whose stories blend those of real-world refugees. Whatever one thinks of the politics of the North African and Middle Eastern refugee crises, one can't help but feel compassion for the individual who endure so much for the dream of a better life.

The Day We Left is in Alpha right now, you can try it yourself via the link at IndieDB below. If you'd like to see the game completed, head to the linked Kickstarter and pledge to support Inner Void. Some of the money they make on the game will be donated to refugee-supporting charities.

That Day We Left is a 3D adventure game that focuses on meaningful choices and immersive narrative. The game aims to provide a realistic picture of the political and humanitarian issue that is the refugee crisis – from a refugee’s point of view. Combined with resource management akin to survival games, That Day We Left offers a healthy balance of gameplay and storytelling. We’re on Kickstarter because we need your help to create a better game and fully flesh out its concept. The game allows the player to experience the journey from a refugee’s perspective. You will assume the role of Rashid, the head of a family escaping the horrors of war to seek refuge in Europe. A journey of fears and dreams, regrets and hope.
