Megan’s talk focuses on fungi, what it is, the problem it poses to health, and what you can do to prevent infections. Everyone has heard about MRSA and antibiotic resistance, but very few people know about fungi and how detrimental to our health they can be. Fungal resistance is becoming an everincreasing issue in healthcare, particularly because of the gap in research and drug development, Megan’s work looks for possible new antifungal compounds extracted from plants. Megan is a biochemist and research student at the University of Lincoln. Her work is based around antifungals and plants as sources of novel pharmaceuticals. She haa a keen interest in making science more accessible to the public and believes that everyone should have an opportunity to explore the science around them. In the future, she hopes to do a PhD and go on to research and lecturing. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
