Featured in the movie Hatari in the 1960's it has since moved from the center of town to its current premises and is the biggest African art and curio outlet in the whole of Africa. Walking around The Cultural Heritage Center, one cannot help but marvel at the sheer magnitude of this operation and it soon becomes apparent that an entire day just isn't enough time to take it all in. The sheer talent of African artists, be they sculptors, painters, woodcarvers or bead workers, is nothing less than mind numbing and the sensitivity with which it is showcased is as pleasing as the art itself. The coup de grace awaits. Nearing completion is Cultural Heritage Center's new art gallery. Built in the shape of an African drum in the shadow of a shield, this enormous edifice is destined to be one of the finest showcases for African art the world has ever seen.
