Voting mostly on party lines, the Minnesota House Public Safety Committee votes to table two gun violence prevention bills. The two measures before the Public Safety Committee authored by Rep. Dave Pinto (DFL) include HF 1669, which would require criminal background checks for all gun sales, and HF 1605, which would allow law enforcement and family members to seek a court order to temporarily keep guns away from those who have shown themselves to be very dangerous. Law enforcement leaders, including Rep. Pinto, a Ramsey County prosecutor, feel that such a gun violence protective order (GVPO) could have prevented the recent shooting in Parkland, Florida.
