--Overall Comments--

This was just a fun episode.  I really loved the Scooby-Doo/mystery type vibes going on here.  Not to mention this episode had some surprisingly intense moments for a show of this kind, including Fluttershy seeing Angel brutally crushed, and the Hall of....Hooves...... WTF Celestia?

The music in this episode was much more incidental than the two-part opener, as is usually the case in these kinds of episodes.  Most of the focus was on the dialogue, jokes, and actions on the screen.  However, there were a few key moments of some fantastic BGM, including Pinkie's amazing organ playing.


--Track Specific Comments--

The third episode of season 1 brought us Friendship Letters from Twilight.  The third episode of season 2 brought us Friendship Letters from the entire Mane 6.  Now, the third episode of season 4 brings us the Friendship Journal (or diary).  I like the consistency.

This track starts out with a simple, yet strangely addicting theme composed of harpsichord, glockenspiel, piano, and flute.  I would love to see this become the base-theme for Friendship Journal entries.  The theme then drifts into a simple version of the familiar "The Magic of Friendship" theme, which we last heard in the Season 4 opener as the Mane 6 entered the Everfree Forest.  It then goes into another theme last heard in season 3's "One Bad Apple" from the track "Why Does Life Have to Be So Ironic!".

Oh, and that's an ominous ending.  (Watch in 1080p!)
