http://www.DarrenMiles.com - Southwest Florida Wedding, Family, Portrait and Real Estate Photographer. You can get these inexpensive Anamorphic effect filters here; www.Horaczko.com Hi, I’m Darren Miles with Darren Miles Photography based here in beautiful, sunny, Naples, FL. Now for something a little bit different and a break from my usual reviews. Every now and again I find a unique product for a low price that does something pretty cool that may help enhance your projects. Recently, I discovered some relatively inexpensive filters that imitate the bokeh and flare effects you’d get with anamorphic lenses. Just a little background, So what’s an anamorphic lens anyway? Without going into a long drawn out explanation, anamorphic lenses were originally created so that a wider aspect ratio could fit onto a smaller standard film frame - basically anamorphic lenses compressed the image to fit onto a smaller space, it was then stretched out later for a wide angle look - essentially it created the wide screen effect (16:9 aspect ratio) - now in stretching out the image for wide screen viewing, the “anamorphic effect” was created - which in addition to giving a big wide screen look to films, it also gave filmmakers some very unique flare and bokeh patterns. And it’s these flare patterns that have become somewhat of the norm in cinema film making and are desired by a lot of filmmakers even today. If you’re just getting into film and you desire the anamorphic look you’ll find out pretty quickly that anamorphic lenses, well they’re not cheap, and if you’re on a budget, what do you do? There’s a little company out there that you can find at www.Horaczko.com that has these anamorphic filters that you screw on over your standard lenses to give you some of those anamorphic looks - both in bokeh and in flare and all without breaking the bank. They’re built pretty well, and are very reasonably priced, they don't have any glass elements which means they won't degrade the image quality. Now keep in mind, that these are filters designed to give you an anamorphic effect, they don’t actually stretch out your footage, so in post to give you that anamorphic feel, you’ll actually have to crop the top and bottom of your image, but you will retain the bokeh and flare effects of an anamorphic lens. They come in a variety of filter sizes - 52, 58, 72 & 77mm - Horaczko also claims that he can create filters in other sizes as well, but the filters will also work with adapters. In addition to various filter sizes, Horaczko also has a variety of bokeh filters that can change the shape of the background highlights and bokeh rendering. It’s mostly gimmicky stuff, but a lot of videographers like that anamorphic flare effect, and if that’s what you desire, these filters can give you that look, and again for a very reasonable price. Check them out at www.Horaczko.com, it’s a small company, so don’t expect an amazon.com like experience from this site, but it’s functional, and most importantly you can get your filters. It’s really hard not to recommend something that can give you a similar effect of a lens costing hundreds or even thousands more. This is Darren Miles with Darren Miles Photography based here in beautiful, Sunny Naples, FL, thank you so much for watching and until the next time, happy shooting!"
