Tuning across the AM broadcast band with a simple regenerative receiver (2 transistors + 1 IC). A tuned loop antenna supplements the internal ferrite rod. These are inductively coupled - there are no wires. As the loop is a very sharp tuned circuit it affects the regeneration settings so tuning is a three-handed affair. Tuning a TRF or regenerative receiver in the 1920s would have been similar to this set except there are more stations around now and selectivity is more important.
