Harmonic Minor Scale And Backing Track for Guitar

Hey there, wanna learn about the Harmonic Minor Scale for guitar? Well if you do, you鈥檙e in the right place. 

Hey for those of you who don鈥檛 know me yet, I鈥檓 Tomas Michaud founder of Real Guitar School. Now the harmonic minor scale is one of my favourite scales for improvising and my main form of improvising is a kind of a Spanish sounding pop Spanish sounding guitar. It has a kind of an exotic mysterious sound I would say. It鈥檚 something that is using classical music but nowadays mostly used in that Spanish sound and also in jazz, smooth jazz, fusion jazz and it usually does give a kind of a little bit of a mysterious sound so what makes that mysterious sound is the notes at the very end of the scale. You see it has every note up until the end, it鈥檚 just like the minor scale so for instance an A minor scale would be the exact same as the A minor in harmonic minor scale. Wait up until the end, at the very end you have a step and a half interval and then a half step interval so listen for the exotic part so the beginning sounds like a minor scale and here comes the interval step and a half and then the half step and back to the octave now.

So today I鈥檓 gonna teach you the open position A harmonic minor scale. Harmonic minor so (1:46) start with the open 5th string A now the second fret second finger, third fret third finger jumping over to the fourth string, second finger again, look just like the last one,  third finger third fret now you鈥檙e gonna use the first finger on the third string first fret and then second finger. Well gonna keep going, let鈥檚 go on to the second string open, first finger, third finger third fret, open first string first finger, first fret and then the pinky so here鈥檚 what it looks like from beginning to end. I鈥檒l keep going and I would go down now and on A.
