I set this simple aquaponics system up a few months ago while it was still cold outside. The tomato plants were growing very slow in the aquaponics system with the limited light so I added the florescent light and it started growing much better. This is a very small system, and it was fun to make, try, and learn from before I build a larger system outside in a green house type of environment. Most of the aquaponics system is automated and requires very little input from me. I add food every few weeks and more water. I also replace the filters as needed. I plan for a system later that will do the filtering for me through gravel. I plan to do that when I build a system outside and then buy some tilapia to put in system. For now the fish from the store will have to do.
