Hello, my name is Jason I mean Urgo, I'm 30 years old, and I'm from the Internet. The Internet you say? Not from Raleigh? Or North Carolina? or from even the United States? Well I'm from there too, but also from other places. A few years ago when I was living in New York I thought "how long do you have to live someplace to say you're from there." I never came up with a good answer. I was born in Massachusetts, got a job after college and moved to Virginia, got transferred to New York, and now reside in North Carolina but I'm FROM the Internet. In the world of 2011, excluding the little sleep I get, I spend more time online then off. I work online, I get my entertainment online, I interact via chat with my friends online, I even order food online, or at least occasionally. Yes, even though I could care less about sports I still cringe when I see someone wearing a yankees hat so the old world is not completely dead. But I believe we are entering on a new era of homeness where, even without a metaverse like those from Tron or The Matrix to live inside of, more and more people will consider the Internet their home. When I was growing up, I was looked at with either oddly or with awe for engaging in chat rooms with users around country or world. Today that's the norm, and even more so if you don't have a facebook account YOU are the odd one. To quote the movie "The Social Network" "Bosnia. They don't have roads, but they have Facebook." Kids in today's world master the use of smart phones and computers before they can even read. They might not know the names of the fifty state capitals but more than likely they have interacted with someone from many of them online even if they didn't know it, and going forward I forsee this only to expand further. Whether banding together to defeat the latest monster in a raid on World of Warcraft or checking in with the happenings of your subscriptions on YouTube it doesn't matter where you are physically as long as you're connected. While I do plan on calling the Raleigh North Carolina area my home for the foreseeable future, if you ask me where I'm from, unless you want to sit down and hear my life story I'll probably tell you, I'm from the Internet.
